Mission and Goals

The mission of the Society of Jesus is the service of faith and the promotion of justice, to be with Jesus as He builds a Kingdom of love, justice and peace. We seek to undertake this mission with spiritual and intellectual depth and with a deep commitment to social justice, solidarity with the poor and respect for God’s creation.

This mission is shared by hundreds of our lay collaborators in our parishes, schools, retreat houses, social and international ministries and in our communications in print, the media, and the web.

Jesuits in English Canada serve across our nation, from Newfoundland and Labrador to British Columbia, and around the world, for example, in India, Jamaica, Nepal, Rome, Tibet, Uganda, Zambia.

The training of young Jesuits in Canada begins in a two year bilingual novitiate programme in Montreal, a joint initiative of the English and French Canadian Jesuits.

After intermediate studies in philosophy and the humanities and an experience of apostolic work, it typically continues with theological studies at Regis College in Toronto, and is completed with some more years of active experience.

Twenty-two young men are in training to become Jesuit priests in English Canada, coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, ethnically and educationally.

As you explore this website, we invite you to share our mission, part of the mission of Jesus Christ, in a world that thirsts for spiritual depth, social and ecological justice and peace among all persons of goodwill.
