Vocations Discernment Retreat held at Martyrs' Shrine

Four men participated in a discernment retreat focussing on the Jesuit vocation during the weekend of December 17-20 at the Martyrs' Shrine in Midland, ON. This silent retreat included periods of personal prayer, spiritual direction, liturgy and adoration, input from a number of Jesuits, and as the highlight a short pilgrimage by snowshoe to the grave of the Jesuit martyrs, St. Jean de Brebeuf and St. Gabriel Lalement in the Church of St. Joseph within the reconstructed site of Ste. Marie among the Hurons.

This annual retreat has proven to be a great help to men in their vocation discernment. Among the 22 men currently in formation for the English Canada Province, at least 15 of them participated in the retreat prior to applying to enter the Society. The retreat has also helped other participants over the years clarify that their vocation was not within the Society of Jesus.
