New Beginnings in the Ukraine

Father David Nazar leads Jesuits in developing a new presence in the Ukraine as that country reinvents itself after communism.

A small group of Jesuits has begun to build a full range of apostolic activity in this former Soviet satellite which is recovering its own cultural heritage and moving quickly to develop its own identity. Jesuits have a mixed reputation based on respect for their historical contribution to education but tinged with criticism for being too tied to outside cultures. Father Nazar and his companions are changing opinions by the contributions they make to what is both an ancient and a very young Church.
