As we prepare for the arrival of Pope John Paul
II and the many young people from around the world, we are
thankful for the kindness and generosity of those who have
committed their time...but we still need more volunteers!!
Based on the success of previous Jesuit activities
for World Youth Days and on the popularity of Martyrs' Shrine,
we expect between 3,000 and 5,000 pilgrims from all over the
world.
To deal with such a large crowd, we will need
between 300 and 400 volunteers. The following is a list of
the different areas where we still require volunteer help:
- 150 volunteers for food preparation and delivery. Ten
people will be needed to drive lunch to the different sites.
(These people will be driving cube vans. They will need
a valid driver's license.)
- 20 volunteers for security (English, French, and Spanish
speaking people required)
- 25 volunteers for first aid (certification required)
- 100 volunteers for our four sites: as tour guides, crowd
control, and at water stations
- 45 volunteers for Arts & Entertainment: to set up and
take down a stage, as actors for two productions (one musical),
as singers for the liturgy, as musicians for the liturgy,
and as sound and lighting crew.
As a sign of our appreciation, volunteers will be asked to
pay just $100 CDN—that is $175 off the $275 World Youth
Day registration price. Your $100 also covers your meals and
accommodations for the volunteer training session just prior
to the start of Ania.
