The Ania
2002 organization has completed the composition of the theme
song that will be used during the days in Midland. The song
is titled "Prayer of Joseph Chiwatenhwa" and is based
on the prayer of the same name. Joseph was St. Jean de Brebeuf's
first convert. The song was composed by Mr. Erik Oland in collaboration
with Mrs. Beverly Lewis, and it is the first Catholic hymn written
in the Huron, French, and English languages. The song has been
incorporated into the World Youth Days handbook. |

Delegates from eight European provinces
of the Society of Jesus recently met in Rome to plan for the
large number of European pilgrims that will be attending Ania
2002 and the World Youth Days. The delegates also met with Pope
John Paul II, who blessed the Ignatian Pilgrimage and
the work of the international Society of Jesus for the World
Youth Days. As well, numerous Jesuits had the opportunity to
meet with Father General Peter Hans-Kolvenbach, s.j., who expressed
his continued support for Ania 2002. |

Through
the generosity of twelve Jesuit Provinces from around the world,
a Solidarity Fund has been established for Ania 2002. This fund
is specifically focused on assisting pilgrims from Latin America. |

Ania 2002 welcomes several aboriginal
groups from Alaska and Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario.
We also welcome a large delegation from China. These groups
will certainly add to the diversity and richness of our event. |

Ania 2002 has graciously been chosen as the final site for
the World Youth Day Cross before the cross reaches Toronto.
It will arrive on the evening of July 19th and remain until
the evening of the 20th!
