What is ANIA 2002?
The title for next year's Jesuit activities, ANIA (A French/Wyandotte
word from the 17th century meaning friendship), sets the tone
for our theme: Friends in the Lord!! This five-day pilgrimage
will bring our youth and friends onto the path of St. Jean
de Brebeuf, Isaac Jogues, and their companions, in their passion
for St. Paul's letters, their love of the cross, and their
love for the Wyandotte people.

Where will the event take place?
We are inviting our youth to Martyrs' Shrine in Midland, Ontario
(an hour and a half north of Toronto)where our Canadian
martyrs ministered, ate, slept, and gave their lives to witness
to the gospels.

What will the participants do during ANIA?
ANIA is fundamentally an experience rooted in the Spiritual
Exercises and modeled on the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm,
with the hopes of deepening the participants' love and passion
for Jesus Christ. This will take place in the beautiful and
spiritually rich atmosphere of Huronia. Using Martyrs' Shrine
as the base camp, each morning participants will travel in
groups of 750-1000 to a different site. The sites are: St.
Ignace (the location of the Martyrdom of St. Jean de Brebeuf
and Gabrielle Lalement), Ste Marie Among the Hurons (the re-constructed
17th century Jesuit Mission), a day of repose at the beach
or in the town of Midland, the Wyandotte Village (a re-constructed
17th century aboriginal village visited by the Jesuits), and
Martyrs' Shrine itself. Afternoons will be designated for
group reflection and silent prayer led by the spiritual animators.
The evenings will offer masses, concerts, dramas, common night
prayer, and testimonials.

What is the Pilgrim's Handbook?
The Pilgrim's Handbook for ANIA 2002 is the most important
aspect of the experience. Written by a panel of ten authors
(five Jesuits and five lay collaborators) well trained in
the Spiritual Exercises and the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm,
it will embody the spirit of the days in Midland, guiding
the participants in prayer and reflection. Divided into sections,
each will represent one of the four pilgrimage sites. Each
section offers various prayers, articles, and pictures that
represent the theme of the location and encourage the participant,
under the direction of his or her animator to pray, reflect,
and act according to this or her desires.

What is a Spiritual Animator?
The spiritual animators are a selected group of leaders trained
in the history and spirituality of St. Ignatius. Consisting
of a combination of Jesuit novices, scholastics, and CLC leaders,
they will endeavor to direct all the pilgrims through the
themes of our experience as laid out in the Pilgrim's Handbook.
They will also offer some training to the visiting group leaders,
so that they too can be animators for their groups.

How much will it cost to attend?
The cost to participate in ANIA is $250 CDN or $175 US in
the form of a money order or bank draft. This covers all food,
accommodations, and activities in Midland as well as return
travel from Toronto to Midland. For an additional $250 CDN
or $175 US we also register groups for the WYD events in Toronto.
This registration covers food, accommodations, and activities
in Toronto. Travel arrangements are the responsibility of
each group of participants. However, upon arrival in Toronto,
on the afternoon of the 16th, buses will bring the participants
to Midland, then return them to Toronto on the 22nd for the
main WYD events.

What if I/we can't afford to attend?
Ania 2002 is an international project of the Society of Jesus.
We hope to host as many Jesuit students, CLCers, and parishioners
from as many countries as possible. However, we are aware
of the incredible distance some of the pilgrims will have
to travel and the prohibitiveness of the costs. To mitigate
these costs, a Solidarity Fund has been established, using
a percentage of the registration fees and donations from various
Jesuit provinces.

What are the arrangements for food and accommodation?
